Laboratory and Engineering workshops Department at Israa University-Gaza organized, in the presence of a selection of academics and specialists, a scientific symposium in the university headquarters at Zahraa City entitled "The Impact of admixtures on Building Materials".

The symposium discussed the impact of the admixtures on building materials and concrete mixtures, with the participation of selected academics and specialists, and representatives from the Ministries of Works and Economics, Palestinian Federation of Construction Industries and Advisory Offices in the context of the interest of the Laboratories Department in organizing specialized scientific symposia that discuss and develop solutions to pressing scientific issues.

Dr. Abdel Fattah Qaraman, Director of the Laboratories Department, welcomed the attendance. He emphasized the harmony of the circle's message and objectives with the university's ambitious vision of providing services to society and extending the bridges of cooperation with the governmental and private sectors.

Dr. Qarman explained that the admixtures directly affect the properties of cement mixtures, as they affect the efficiency and durability of buildings and consequently the lives and abilities of the population. This makes it a priority for all concerned and relevant people from both public and private sectors to highlight and address them in-depth research scientific study.

Dr. Qaraman, a specialist in foam concrete, presented a scientific paper on the uses of foam concrete and its importance in building due to its qualities of thermal, water, and acoustic insulation. It explains its global uses in green and energy-efficient buildings.

Dr. Alaa Matar, Director of the Scientific Research Department at Israa University, spoke about the role and importance of scientific research in all scientific fields, noting that since its inception some five years ago, the university has been paying great attention to scientific seminars and conferences. The Palestinian Authority is also the only one to be able to achieve a just and sustainable development in the Palestinian territories.

Dr. Aied Zuhd, Assistant Professor at Palestine University; Director of the Technical Department in Al-Zawaydh Municipality, presented a scientific paper discussing the concept of additives, their uses, types and their impact on buildings and building materials.

Prof. Ma'mun Alqedra, Civil Engineering lecturer - Islamic University Gaza, discussed in his presentation the modern aspects of concrete admixtures technology such as smart concrete and self-sensing. He stressed the importance of keeping up with international development in addition to its great effect on the properties of fresh and solid concrete.

For his part, Mr. Salah Al-Hato, Director of the Public Department for Research, Studies, and Development of the Ministry of Works explained. the Ministry's role in monitoring construction companies and their compliance with Palestinian standards, developing construction industries, raising quality in them, and providing certification for concrete or concrete factories, block, paint and plastic, and all related to building materials.

Mr. Mohammad Al-Assar, Secretary of the Federation of Construction Industries, explains the difficulties the construction sector faces under the siege, explaining that they are represented in difficulties that the factory owners working in the construction sector face importing chemical additives on the building materials. There is no clear instructions on imported materials. Al-Assar also demanded clarification leaflets on the additions and instructions for their mix of each type of cement.

 Mr. Anwar Huthut, Follow-up Department -Ministry of Economy, spoke about the ministry's role in monitoring the added market and the materials used in construction, referring to the difficulties the ministry faces in controlling the local market in this field. He confirmed that the ministry works according to the specifications of the added.

Eventually, many interventions and in-depth discussions, participants recommended more specialized seminars that provide construction workers with the scientific and technical developments, and the attendance recommended that government authorities exercise more control over the market and the specifications of the added. The role of Israa University in guiding scientific research toward pressing construction issues.
