On November 2nd , Israa University organized a protest on the centennial of the ill-fated Balfour Declaration, which was participated by Dr. Adnan Al-Hajjar (President of the University), Dr. Ahmad Al-Hussaina (Deputy Vice President), Dr. Ahmed Al-Wadiya (Dean of the Faculty of Humanities), and all employees and students of the university.

During the protest, the students was raising Palestinian flags and condemning the Balfour Declaration, which is a fateful promise from those who do not own to those who do not deserve, and they called the British government to apologize for this ominous promise.

All the university employees and students signed in a letter addressed to the international community and the British government on the centennial of the Balfour Declaration in order to be handed over to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. In the letter, the University expresses its rejection of the silence of the international community and its failure to uphold the Palestinian's right. Furthermore, they demanded the British government to work hard to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy that guarantee the Palestinian people right to freedom and self-determination.

The content of the letter:

November 2nd, 2017

To: Mr. Antonio Guterich,

 United Nations Secretary-General

Letter to International Community and British Government on the Centennial of the Balfour Declaration

The centennial of the Balfour Declaration is on November 2, 2017. However, Palestinians are the only people in the world still being subjected to occupation, and confiscation of their right of freedom and self-determination, though it is guaranteed by international law and international legitimacy.

In commemoration of the Balfour Declaration, Israa University calls upon the international community to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities towards the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their rights to freedom and self-determination. It also calls on the British Government to bear its greatest historical responsibility and rectify the injustice done to the Palestinian people in order to achieve their freedom; self-determination;  their freedom confiscation, and the crimes committed against them. This is indeed because the British Government, which had signed the Balfour promise, confiscated the rights of the Palestinian people and was the cause of the historical injustice and suffering that was inflicted on them and still going because of the Israeli occupation practices.

It also calls for the activation of the international accountability mechanisms of the international judiciary, especially the role of the International Criminal Court, which provides an opportunity to redress the Palestinian victims and prosecute Israeli war criminals.

Therefore, we at Israa University, represented by its Board of Directors, Executive Management, employees, and students, sign this letter and declare our rejection of the international community silence and its failure to support the Palestinian right. We are asking the international community, mainly the British Government to work hard to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy that guarantee the Palestinian people right to gain freedom and self-determination.
