On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Israa University, represented by its President, Prof. Abdel-Khaleq Al-Farra, hosted the Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip, Miriam Millar, in order to discuss ways of joint cooperation at the university’s main campus in Al-Zahra City.

Millar was received by the university's vice president for administrative and financial affairs, Dr. Ahmed Al-Hassaina, the university's vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Alaa Matar, and the director of the Projects and International Cooperation Department, Professor Basil Nasser.

The committee's delegation included the advisor to the ICRC Director, Mr. Fayez Al-Aqra, the Director of the Information and Publication Department, Mr. Youssef Al-Yazji, and Ms. Amani Al-Naouq from the Media Department.

Prof. Al-Farra welcomed the delegation of the Committee stressing the important humanitarian role played by the International Committee of the Red Cross in serving the rights of the Palestinian people and Palestinian captives.

The university president got the delegation acquainted with the university specializations and facilities. He also briefed the delegation on Israa Medical City project, welcoming any joint projects with the committee that serve university students in the fields of International Humanitarian Law and other fields.

For her part, Millar expressed her happiness about visiting the university and the facilities it offers to students in order to guarantee their right to education, indicating that the committee considers helping students and people with disabilities as its priorities. It also appreciates the efforts made by Israa University in this field.

The Director of the Red Cross praised the Israa Medical City project which serves students and citizens, indicating that the Red Cross is keen to support the emergency departments in the hospitals of the Strip.

In addition, She emphasized that the International Committee of the Red Cross is fully prepared to cooperation with Israa University in the field of Law and International Humanitarian Law, especially after the organization of the School of Humanitarian Law by the committee in cooperation with the University, which resulted in important decisions that the Committee took into consideration.
