Center for Energy and Environment Research, Faculty of Engineering at Israa University-Gaza, organized a specialized scientific seminar at the university headquarters entitled "Gaza Valley-Environmental reality and Sustainable Development prospects". Hence it discussed the environmental reality in the Gaza Valley Reserve and prospects for Sustainable Development with the participation of specialized academics and environmental activists. This is in the context of the interest of the Scientific Research Service and the Research Centers Section in organizing specialized scientific seminars that discuss and develop solutions to pressing scientific issues.
In his speech, Dr. Abdul-Fattah Qarman, director of the Center for Energy and Environment Research, welcomed the attendance, referring to the message and objectives of the center that are consistent with the university's ambitious vision of providing services to society to promote it and its reality for the best and most. Qarman said that the environmental changes that hit the Gaza Valley became a reality that harks back those interested and negatively affects all aspects of life in its surroundings.
The Director of the Department of Scientific Research and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in the University Dr. Alaa Matar spoke a lot about the role and importance of scientific research in all scientific fields, noting that the University and since its inception about four years ago. It pays more attention to scientific symposia and conferences that would bring about a qualitative shift in all that would enhance the Palestinian reality at the academic, technical and other levels and areas.
Dr. Mohamad Al-Nahal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Systems at the University, confirmed the course. The main focus of the research center is the work of the research centers, where the faculty supervises the work of two centers, namely the Center for Energy and Environment Research and the Information Systems Research Center, emphasizing the importance and centrality of scientific research and the role of researchers is to create research movements that aim at developing solutions to address the many problems that Palestine suffers from.
Assoc.Prof. Abdel Fattah Abed-Rabbo, Islamic University of Gaza, presented a working paper discussing environmental problems related to the natural reserve of Gaza Valley, explaining the negative changes that occurred in wildlife after being polluted.
Dr. Ahmed Hells, Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences at Al-Azhar University and Chairman of the National Institute for Environment and Development (Ned), discussed the health effects of the pollution of the Gaza Valley environment with solid waste and sewage. He also presented a working paper on the procedures being carried out by the Sahel Water Authority to rehabilitate the Gaza Valley.
Dr. Ali Qaraman, Al-Aqsa University's Assistant Professor, exposed a paper on the geomorphological changes of the course of the Gaza Valley, which discussed encroachment on the valley campus and the devastating exploitation of the natural environment.
Dr. Taleb Abu Malah, Assistant Professor; Dean of Faculty of Health professions, Israa University, presented a presentation on psychological and social effects of environmental pollution on inhabitants in Gaza valley surroundings, explaining psychological pressures that negatively affected social behavior and psychological comfort of citizens in Gaza valley surroundings.
At the end of the seminar that witnessed many interventions and in-depth discussions, the participants recommended the necessity of saving Gaza valley and turning it again to a natural reserve, holding the occupation forces the biggest role in the valley water detention, which negatively affected the reservoir, calling for the government and popular efforts to protect the natural environment in Al-Wadi area.
Participants also recommended that laws protecting the environment and preventing the diversion of nature reserves to solid waste dumps be put into effect, repaying the attention of Israa University-Gaza to the kind of seminars that could be built on its directors to bring about the needed change in society. This seminar comes within the framework of the university's great interest in scientific research and trying to offer innovative solutions to the problems that Gaza Strip faces as one of the university's strategic tasks.
